I can't believe its 2011 and this February I will be starting my 16th year in Law Enforcement. Man,where has all the time gone? It seems not that long ago I was getting sworn in. Well, I was 27 years old when I started and in pretty good shape, and now, I am 42, and guess what, I am in the best shape of my life.
About 2 years ago, I plateaued and was in such a rut, physically. The work I was doing, being in Law Enforcement, had caused major amounts stress. My desire to workout was at 0%. As you know, Cops and doughnuts, or as I call them, power rings, are synonymous and I was living proof of that. My weight at the time was 216 lbs. at 25% body fat with a cholesterol level of 255. I was in bad shape. I decided to take a stand because I wanted to be a better representative for my Dept. and for myself. I realized being overweight, stress, and law Enforcement don't mix. I didn't want to be a heart attack candidate. It scared me because heart disease runs in my family. That's why I decided to make that change.
I want the criminals I come across to know that this officer is strong and in in great shape. I want them to think twice about wanting to challenge me. As an officer, we are equipped with many gadgets on our belt and there are times we do not have the opportunity to use those things, ie. taser, pepper spray, ASP (baton). When we don't,we rely on our physical ability. I am happy to say that my chances of being on the losing end of a fight are slim. That's why I highly recommend for all my brothers and sisters out there to to take your health very seriously. I have known many officers who retired and and within a short amount of time have died because of their health, stress, and lack of exercise. Law Enforcement is one of the most stressful jobs you can have and I am right in the middle of it. I take my health very seriously and when I finally retire, I'm still gonna be in great shape. Don't wait another day.Grab the bull by the horns and take charge of you fitness. This is a key element to help you live a long healthy life. The best way to relive stress is exercise so remember, "No Fitness, No Health!, Know Fitness, Know Health!"
